PM Modi Xi Jinping
SCO Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in an important statement before meeting President Xi Jinping that India wants to take forward bilateral relations with China with a strategic and long-term perspective based on mutual respect, shared interests and sensitivity. This statement has come at a time when Modi is on a visit to China after seven years, in which he will participate in the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
Prime Minister Modi made it clear that stable India-China relations are essential to maintain peace in the Indo-Pacific region. He said that peaceful and cooperative relations between the two countries will contribute not only to regional but also global stability and prosperity.
Prime Minister Modi said that he is going to attend the SCO summit being held in Tianjin on the invitation of Xi Jinping. After their meeting in Kazan last year, a positive trend has been seen in India-China relations. The member countries of SCO also include influential countries like Russia and Iran, which further increases the strategic importance of this summit.
The Prime Minister emphasised that strong relations between neighbouring countries, especially between two giant countries like India and China, can have a positive impact on the prosperity of the entire region. According to Modi, stable and cordial bilateral relations can open avenues of peace and development for Asia and the world.
Modi described India-China cooperation as extremely necessary in the backdrop of instability in the multipolar world. He said that when the world economic system is going through a period of uncertainty, the two major economies should work together to ensure global stability.
The Prime Minister reiterated that India is ready to enhance strategic dialogue with China to jointly address development challenges. He believes that this cooperation with a long-term perspective will be in the interest of the people of both countries.
After his Japan visit, Modi will leave for China, where he will not only meet President Xi Jinping but will also hold an important meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This visit will be his first visit to China after the India-China clash in the Galwan Valley in 2020, which makes its political and diplomatic significance even deeper.
